National Action Network “Keepers of the Dream Awards”

There’s something so amazing to be in an environment full of visionaries! On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, Reverend Al Sharpton and National Action Network hosted their 14th Annual Keepers of the Dream Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Whether among entertainment, political, non-profit, Corporate America, and other sectors in the workforce, there will always be a “Keeper of the Dream” which Dr. Martin Luther King envisioned for the world.

Dr. King had a dream for the betterment of society, and to have the privilege to reflect upon his vision and honor those who are keeping the dream alive is indeed a celebration! The evening started with a warm welcoming from Tamron Hall of MSNBC and followed suit with a splendid program structure including video presentations and statements. A special keynote address was delivered by Dr. Bill Cosby who provided an uplifting address regarding community affairs and still squeezed in his good-humored comedy which created sparks of laughter in the audience.

Honorees for evening included the following:

Karla Ballard

Chief of Strategic Development, Media and National Partnerships One Economy

Richard D. Parsons

Senior Advisor at Providence Equity Partners Inc.

Doug Morris

Chief Executive Officer of Sony Music Entertainment

Denzel & Pauletta Washington

To celebrate the accomplishments of these individuals were a host of well known personages such as Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Judge Greg Mathis, Bob Johnson, founder of BET, L.A. Reid, and Tatyana Ali to name a few. The evening was truly a night to remember and acknowledged the honorees to the fullest for being “Keepers of the Dream”. To commend the honorees for their acts in society, John Legend graced the audience with his sensational smooth sounds and the closing of the evening concluded with an utterance of good wishes from Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson.

A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus. – Dr. Martin Luther King
