Celebrating the Dream of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The city of Jacksonville celebrated their 27th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on Friday, January 17 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center in Jacksonville, FL. Soledad O’Brien, former CNN journalist and CEO of Starfish Media Group was the featuring Keynote Speaker on this commemorating event which honored Martin Luther King’s legacy. Women ROCK!
Last week I kept hearing and reading various themes about “WOMEN”. Whether topic focus was about how women should be treated in relationships, tips on dating/marriage, scriptures about women, and my own personal discussions with friends about the new generation of women. With this theme, I had a vision to have a social gathering with a couple of my friends to view BET’s “Black Girls Rock”. An evening of “awes” were the outburst heard from the supporters who attended the occasion for the Trumpet Newsmagazine event which honored the living legend and Founding Board Member, Greg Hinton, an advocate for social justice, communities of color, and diversity at the Akainyah Gallery in Chicago on Friday, February 22.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, Reverend Al Sharpton and National Action Network hosted their 14th Annual Keepers of the Dream Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Whether among entertainment, political, non-profit, Corporate America, and other sectors in the workforce, there will always be a “Keeper of the Dream” which Dr. Martin Luther King envisioned for the world.
Celebrating the Sista Within!
There was no better way I could have spent the day than to end Women’s History month by Celebrating the Sista Within at the 5th Annual Sista 2 Sista Youth Summit, Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. An empowering filled day of celebrations included engaging workshops, reflective activities which addressed issues that are faced in the lives of youth, and uplifting live entertainment helped make this event a memorable one that will leave a mark in the young girl attendees lives and give them new light as enter the real world!

Women’s History month is a great time to reflect and honor women who are making their mark in society.While women are continually shattering glass ceiling, it’s always great to have a celebration which honors their contributions in society. On Tuesday, March 13, 2102 Inspired in New York held their Honoree series at Tian at the Riverside in Harlem, New York.

“Leap Day” only comes once every four years and what better way to spend that extra day we have in February than to be surrounded by the soothing melodies of jazz and mingling with those in the Financial District in New York City. D.R.E.A.M. (Developing Responsible Economically Advanced Model-Citizens), an educational nonprofit organization which educates underrepresented youth on financial literacy held their Sax Therapy: Live Jazz Social & After Work Mixer to create an atmosphere with a sophisticated twist!
