What’s Love Got to Do With It?!

What better way to begin 2012 than to kick off the year with a 30-Day Self- Love Challenge! This challenge created by Akua Soadwa @akuasoadwa, Founder & Director of Gye Nyame Empowerment Project, gives an opportunity for individuals to choose themselves first. Not to be selfish in loving only themselves, but in the end of the challenge to carry the love they have for themselves and help others.

Holiday Pop-up: Give

What better way to beat the holiday crowd than to shop, donate, and mingle with women leaders in the community by attending a Holiday Pop-up in Manhattan.  Michelle O Brunch, an organization which celebrates the success of women leaders in the African American community while creating a space for these individuals to continue to connect, empower, and learn from one another, hosted their 2nd Annual Holiday Pop-up: Give this Saturday at the SalonEco at Green Spaces in New York. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

The month of December always brings me such great joy! It’s the last month of the year and while everyone is getting ready for the holiday season and closing of the year, I’m getting ready for my personal New Year celebration! A new year of life and new adventures!

One thing that I enjoy most about celebrating a personal new year is the opportunity to celebrate my journey of the past as well as new adventures that will come. Each year an individual learns even more about who they are and can start to piece the puzzle together of what their purpose is in life. Read the rest of this entry

Thanksgiving Thoughts

I hope all of you had a very HAPPY Thanksgiving filled with fellowship and great cuisines! As I reflect on my adventures from last year to this date, I’m constantly reminded of all the things I’m GRATEFUL for! My laundry list of “THANKS” stretches beyond measure. However, I’m most grateful for God’s grace, my family, friends, and adopted brothers and sisters.

Everyday should be a day of THANKS and appreciation for every moment in our lives. It’s through these times that lessons are learned and we can continue to develop as a people.  Ms. Diana Ross’ song “Reach Out and Touch” sets the tone for giving THANKS by helping others along our journey. Reflecting on the Monument

An impromptu trip to the nation’s capital allowed me to recapture old stomping grounds into a new light.  While it was great to be among friends and visit on a weekend where the excitement was in the city for Howard University’s homecoming, I also had an opportunity to visit the Martin Luther King memorial.

Parties with a Purpose!

Celebrations and honors were what this week entailed for me. I started the week off at the Mixtape Comedy Show where The Mama Luke Foundation, led by Hip Hop Pioneer Kangol Kid, teamed up with host Royale Watkins for a show dedicated to support the awareness of Breast Cancer.  It was really great to see all the supporters in the building in addition to special guest who came through such as Bowlegged Lou, Tony Rock, and Grandmaster Dee of Whodini.  The show was for a purpose and as a bonus a portion of the proceeds from the nights show will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
